Kyphoplasty
Kyphoplasty is a surgical procedure used to stop the pain caused by bone fracture. It also stabilizes the bone and restores some or all of the lost body height due to compression fracture in the spine. During kyphoplasty, a special balloon is inserted and inflated inside the fractured vertebrae to restore height to the bone and reduce spine deformity. Then, a cement-like material is injected directly into the fractured bone. This stabilizes the fracture and provides immediate pain relief in many cases. Candidates for this often suffer from osteoporosis
Computer Aided Alignment
Dr. James Ellison now uses a very new computer aided program during knee and hip replacement surgery which increases the success of knee and hip implants. "The success of any implant depends on its alignment, " states Dr. Ellison. This computer aided program is so new that Dr. Ellison has called the University of Maryland and Hershey Medical Center only to find neither place offers it to their surgeons.
Artificial Disc Replacement
Our new artificial disc replacement procedure can stop future problems and prevent additional surgeries. One goal of this procedure is to relieve the pain caused by pinched nerves or discogenic pain in the lumbar spine by replacing a diseased or damaged disc with specialized metal and polyethylene implants. Dr. Raley, who was among the first to perform this procedure while learning it on a spinal surgery fellowship at the State University of New York, is our expert in disc replacement. For Karen Andrew of Biglerville, this surgery saved her from a life sentence of pain.
In the area of bone and joint treatment and surgery, the five surgeons of Hanover Orthopaedic Associates Inc., are now using exceptional, new surgical proceduresand technology, surpassing hospitals in bigger cities.
